Laurel County Man Arrested for Alleged Vehicle Theft and Fentanyl Trafficking

Somerset, Kentucky (SPC) - One Laurel County man was arrested after police said he stole a Toyota Camry from a business parking lot.Deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office took James Gregory, 42, of London, into custody on Wednesday. It started when dispatch relayed a complaint to deputies about the stolen vehicle that was parked off South Stewart Road.When police later noticed the vehicle and Gregory, they executed a traffic stop. According to deputies, Gregory told them that he had bought the vehicle from someone for $500. Gregory was also wanted on an outstanding warrant, police said.

When police launched an investigation, they discovered that Gregory was in possession of scales, clear plastic baggies, pipes with drug residue inside, and a baggie containing what they believed was fentanyl. Gregory was charged with receiving stolen property - $1,000 or more but less than $10,000 and trafficking in a controlled substance - first offense (fentanyl).He was also charged on a Whitley District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear for arraignment on charges of operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center
