Welcome news for Pulaski and Laurel counties!

Communities in Kentucky hit hard by tornadoes in May and flooding in April will receive nearly $56 million in federal funding to support recovery efforts. The assistance, approved by President Donald Trump, includes FEMA Public Assistance grants to help state and local governments, and eligible nonprofits, repair damaged roads, bridges, public buildings, and water systems, and remove storm debris.

Of the total, $29 million is designated for flooding recovery in April, and $27.1 million for May’s storm and tornado damage, including impacts to Pulaski and Laurel counties.

Governor Andy Beshear commended FEMA’s work in Kentucky, while State Senators Rick Girdler (R-Somerset) and Brandon Storm (R-London) expressed gratitude for the support, calling it “a blessing and a critical step forward.”

This follows earlier federal approval of individual disaster assistance for six counties. The May storms resulted in the deaths of 19 Kentuckians.
