WEST POINT, NEW YORK (SPA)– After weeks of relentless drills, sleepless nights, and unyielding discipline, the newest cadets earn their place with one final test of endurance — a punishing march that marks the end of basic training and the beginning of their military journey.

Cadets in the West Point class of 2029 concluded their cadet basic training on Monday with the traditional march from Lake Frederick to the academy.

The event culminated the six-weeks known as Beast Barracks where the new cadets trained in basic military skills and prepared them for entry into the Corps of Cadets.

The new cadets will be formally welcomed into the Corps of Cadets during the Acceptance Day Parade on Saturday morning, August 16.

As with the annual tradition, members of previous graduating classes march back with the new cadets as they pass by the superintendent’s residence.

The event acknowledges the cadets’ successful completion of one of the most demanding challenges they will encounter during their 47-month cadet experience.
