Harlan County, Kentucky (SPA)---A 51-year-old man was taken into custody early Sunday morning following an armed standoff with law enforcement that began Saturday evening in response to a domestic violence call.

Stacy Huff of Harlan County surrendered to authorities at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday after barricading himself and threatening officers for more than an hour, according to the Harlan County Sheriff's Office.

The incident began when a sheriff's deputy and an Evarts Police Department officer responded to a residence in Colsplint regarding a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that Huff, who authorities described as "highly intoxicated," had allegedly held family members at knifepoint before escalating the situation by obtaining a firearm and making threats.

Family members were discovered by responding officers as they fled the scene on foot across a nearby bridge. The confrontation intensified when Huff allegedly opened fire on Harlan County Deputy Jesse Howard and Evarts Assistant Police Chief Brian Moore shortly after they identified themselves. Neither officer was injured in the shooting.

The standoff continued for approximately one hour before Huff voluntarily surrendered to authorities. No injuries were reported among law enforcement personnel or civilians involved in the incident.

The sheriff's office has not yet released information regarding specific charges Huff may face or details about the condition of the family members involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
